Are you looking for a challenge at the interface between research and production? Do you enjoy hands-on laboratory work, and don’t let experimental setbacks throw you off track? Would you like to be part of a collaborative team and actively contribute to a modern company in a forward‑looking industry?

Then join us as a Research Associate (m/f/d) in either our Research & Development or Process Development team! Depending on your background and interests, you will work on the characterization and analysis of enzymes, analytical chromatography, and the development of biosensors, or you will focus on the generation and optimization of microbial production strains - particularly within the genus Bacillus spp. - as well as the development of fermentation processes for the production and application of enzymes.

What we offer:

  • Our Kerry Biotechnology Centre – a modern and attractive location at Alte Messe Leipzig with state of the art office and laboratory facilities.
  • An international team working in an innovative environment.
  • A structured onboarding process that prepares you for a varied and dynamic workday.
  • Flat hierarchies and a trusting, supportive work atmosphere
  • Competitive compensation and unforgettable team events

Your possible key areas of responsibilities (tasks may vary depending on assignment in Research & Development or Process Development):

Focus R&D Enzyme Characterization and Biosensor Development:

  • You carry out practical laboratory work under technical guidance and you are involved in the planning and evaluation of experiments or independently plan and evaluate experimental work.
  • You contribute to the development of enzyme based biosensors, particularly with regard to experimental execution, data acquisition, and evaluation of results.
  • You perform enzyme and biosensor characterization activities.
  • You participate in the development and establishment of enzyme assays, including preparation, execution, and careful documentation of measurement series.
  • You conduct chromatographic analyses (e.g. HPLC, IC) and independently ensure the maintenance, servicing, and functional control of the analytical instruments used.
  • You provide technical input to the further development and validation of analytical methods and are responsible for their practical implementation.

Focus Process Development - Bacillus Strains & Fermentation

  • You will carry out genetic engineering and microbiological work to optimize the expression of microbial production strains, with a focus on the Bacillus genus.
  • You will evaluate the genetically modified strains through expression analyses in shake flasks as well as in small‑scale fermentations (0.5–15 L).
  • You will conduct experiments aimed at optimizing fermentation processes and perform subsequent downstream processing steps at laboratory scale.
  • As part of the team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of analytical methods, such as photometric enzyme activity assays, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis.
  • Together with your colleagues, you will ensure the maintenance of order, cleanliness, and safety in the laboratory.
 Your Profile:
  • Education:  completed training as a CTA, BTA, chemical laboratory technician, or biological laboratory technician (m/f/d), or an academic degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, or biochemical/bioprocess engineering (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Diploma).
  • Experience: Ideally, you have relevant professional experience in one or more of the areas mentioned above.
  • Work style:  dedicated, structured, and conscientious.
  • Personality: motivated, open-minded, and a strong team player.
  • Languages:  good written and spoken German and English skills.
